Northern Mozambique is home to millions of people living in extreme poverty with little or no access to safe, reliable healthcare. Distance from the capital, decades of underinvestment, recurring cyclones and drought, and ongoing insecurity in parts of the region have left health systems fragile and overstretched. For many common and life-threatening conditions, especially those requiring surgery, care is simply unavailable.
Medical facilities are sparse, under-resourced, and often unable to provide more than basic services. Patients frequently travel long distances or forgo care entirely, leading to preventable deaths and long-term disability. At the same time, churches and local leaders consistently request support—not only for physical healing, but for sustainable, compassionate care that strengthens communities and reflects the love of Christ.
OUR RESPONSE
Rapha aims to respond to the incredible healthcare, economic and spiritual needs of northern Mozambique with a christian health ministry that provides compassionate, holistic and professional health services through a surgical training mission hospital in Nampula (long-term goal) and a network of strategically-located satellite facilities as well as community health initiatives through churches.

Surgical Mission Hospital
Rapha Mozambique is developing a phased surgical mission hospital to address the near-total lack of safe surgical care in northern Mozambique. The hospital will provide essential surgeries while serving as a center for discipleship, mentorship, and long-term Christian medical mission.

Training & Capacity Building
From the beginning, this work prioritizes training and discipleship of Mozambican clinicians, nurses, and health workers to lead and sustain care locally. By investing in people, not just buildings, we aim to multiply impact and ensure long-term ownership and resilience.

Community Health Services
Community-linked clinics and outreach programs will extend care beyond the hospital walls, partnering closely with local churches. These services focus on prevention, early treatment, and referral, bringing compassionate, Christ-centered care closer to where people live.
